This might not pertain to all cats but luckily, mine never had problems when they ate tinsel and one of them ate it all the time when it was around. He is passed now but I remember finding tinsel and whatever else he found laying around to chew on in his litter box feces quite often. The odd time when it worried me, I would give them a dose of Toniclax (which is an over the counter medication from the vet here in Canada that I always keep around). It is a laxitive/hairball remover that works quite gently when used regularly. It is primarily kept on hand by owners of long haired cats but I've had cats from short hair to Persian and it seemed to work quite well on all of them.
