Answer In the wild, seeds, nuts, roots just about anything. They will also eat cheese, peanut butter, bread and crackers, cereals, just about anything they can find in a pantry. Answer
BOTH OF YOU ARE WRONG- WRONG-- WRONG!!! They may eat cheese but if they do, they will die! its a myth that they eat it. And, they cannot drink anything with caffeine and what-not in it.. they also should not eat sugary snacks/food! they eat pretty much ALL uncooked veggies and some fruits like cherries, strawberries, bananas, etc. and grains like brown rice, bread (any), and just- wheat!
It is a myth that they love cheese above all other foods but it DOES NOT kill them.
-----
It is not complete myth about them eating cheese. Before refrigeration cheese and other thing that need to be kept cool would be on the lower shelf of a pantry (Usually made from marble or other cold stones) Making it the easiest thing for mice and other rodents to get to.

Dont feed it cheese! Cheese is actually toxic to mice! if you are feeding a wild mouse or keeping it as a pet, gather wild grasses and seeds etc. You can also feed it sunflower seeds, bread, biscuit crumbs, pet mouse food and other small animals pet foods, such as guinea pig.
