This is called two-point. It is called this because you remain in two ponits of contact with the horse (your legs and hands). Normal riding is the three point position where you use your legs, seat, and hands.

What does a collected canter in dressage feel like?

The collected canter feels similar to the regular working canter except the movement is more powerful and more contained. You can feel the horse's hindquarters working harder underneath you and the movement is more up-and-down than forward-and-back.

How do you make a horse gallop?

He simply starts moving faster and taking longer strides. The sequence of footfalls is precisely the same, but the longer strides means that the double beat that normally accompanies the canter is changed to two individual beats.

Why won't your horse canter?

this is how you get a horse to canter: do a half halt, holding that energy in her, turn her head to the rail, or fence, and say "canter" very loudly and kick and cluck. good luck! it is really fun to canter bareback, too You probably won't need to kick most horses. A small amount of pressure from your outside leg just behind the girth will tell a well-trained horse to canter. If you are asking for the caner and the horse refuses, first make sure there is nothing causing him pain (a vet can look at his back and hocks for problems) and that the saddle fits without pinching. A horse won't canter if he's in pain. Make sure you ask for the canter from a steady, forward-moving trot and if the horse still refused to canter, follow up with a tap from a whip until he gets the idea. Be careful not to pull back on the reins, as this will just confuse the horse

Is it possible to stay in the sadle while cantering?

yes you can stay in the saddle while cantering with a little technique. You need to learn the rhythm of your horses canter since no horse gallops the same. You need to have your toes in the stirrups and almost kind of stand up each time the horses legs move forward and come back down in the saddle in kind of a rhythm with the horses canter. you might have sore thighs later, but the more you do this the more natural it becomes

Do you pull up the stirrups after removing the saddle?

For safeties sake no ,.Your stirrups should be pulled up before the saddle is removed and when you get off your horse at anytime.Horses can and have got their jaw caught in a loose stirrup, they've taken fright of a loose stirrup. stirrups should also be stored pulled up onto the saddle when not in use riding and the whole saddle dustcovered. I always pull the stirrups up before removing the sadde, so they don't bash my shins while walking.....yep pull them up before removal.

to run stirrups up its best to get off the horse or pony first then get the outer strap that has the stirrup on and pull it towards you then get the actual stirrup and push it up the strap closest to the horse then grab the straps and put them through the stirrup that will make the stirrup stay safely up out of the way.
