Ignorance is bliss. You'd be more inclined to stop eating beef if you had an attachment to a cow. So metaphorically, it's better to maintain your lifestyle without witnessing the costs or consequence of it on others.
This reminds me once when I was at my cousin's house and he said he had left over fish that they caught on their last fishing trip. I was so hungry and ready to dig in . . . but when I took the napkin off the microwaved fish, I saw the head was still attach to the body . . .
Right away I'm like "Ok, I guess I'm not hungry any more." I never ate meat from a fish who's head was still attached to it . . .
