A five year Choroy is my companion and he loves vegetables, fruits, greens, rice, whole grains, cooked beans. Organic is best, fresh is best. For proteins, he enjoys small amounts of wild salmon and boiled egg or little chicken meat - twice a week, as part of his meal of the fruits, vegetables, etc. He gets a very small amount of seeds a couple times a week as a treat. An almond, walnut, pignola/pine nut can be another treat but do not feed much daily. Some parrots need more nuts in their diet (like Macaws) but Choroys do not and can easily become overweight if fed too much fat. This is bad for their health. Sprouts are very healthy and nutritious and can easily be prepared overnight or in a couple days (there are lots of sprouting instructions online). Sprout grains, beans, seeds, almonds for your Choroy and s/he will be happy! My Choroy loves organic berries, salad greens, peppers, coconut, fresh snap peas, apple slices, and a MASH of cooked grains, lentils, beans maybe seasoned with a bit of ginger or cinnamon or hot pepper. Pomegranates are another favourite. NEVER feed your Choroy anything containing avocado, chocolate, coffee/tea/caffeine, alcohol as these are all poisonous. Limit amounts of onion and garlic - only allowed as a condiment in cooked foods. Do not feed salt or salted foods, fatty fried foods, sugar, or foods with pesticides. Cook beans before feeding. Wash all foods very well before feeding. Although focussing on Eclectus parrots, there is a lot of good nutritional suggestions, diet ideas, recipes, and health tips and more on the website http://www.landofvos.com Choroys are beautiful, loving, intelligent, humourous, playful, joyful, talkative, active little companions. Give great nutrition, fresh pure water, lots of safe toys and exercise and lots of your loving attention and company and you'll have a friend for life! Enjoy your Choroy companion!
