If the cat keeps doing it or does it repeatedly you may want to check with your vet. It isn't something they should be doing normally. I'd keep a close eye on the cat, they have a tendency to hide when they don't feel real good, and make sure that it doesn't continue. If it did, time for a trip or call to the Vet.

^Good advice about taking them to the vet. I remember learning somewhere that cats don't need to pant normally because they groom themselves when they are hot and let the wetness evaporate, keeping them cool. I have cats and in the summer they groom a lot.
