In short(if the question refers to the standard house cat), yes. A cat can kill a raccoon. Unlikely as it is, some cats are just big, bad and wild enough to take down raccoons. (A raccoon is stout, aggressive animal and cousin to the badger.) I have seen a Maine Coone (he was 26 lbs of solid muscle) that lived on my cousins farm kill a raccoon and walk away with a nicked ear. I have seen a Tabby cat agile enough to run around, jump over and hit the noses of three aggressive raccoons without injury. I have seen a neighbors cat literally torn to shreds.

A cat surviving an encounter depends on two key factors 1). The cats breed and 2). the cats upbringing. Some breeds of cat are just naturally stronger and bigger (e.g. the Maine Coone) and thus stand a better chance in a fight with a raccoon. A cat that has lived on a farm, fended for itself fighting other cats, catching rats etc. will have a better chance to come out on top in a fight with a raccoon.

A raccoon usually will not go out of its way to attack a cat, but if the cat bothers it or gets to close to its young the raccoon will attack, possibly killing the cat. Raccoons are also prone to have rabies, and a rabid raccoon may attack anything on sight.

Any pet who is bitten or scratched by either a wild, carnivorous mammal or a bat that is not available for testing should be considered as having been exposed to rabies. Public health officials recommend that unvaccinated dogs, cats, and ferrets exposed to a rabid animal should be euthanized immediately. If the owner is unwilling to have this done, the animal should be placed in strict isolation for 6 months and vaccinated 1 month before being released. Animals with expired vaccinations need to be evaluated on a case-by-case basis. Dogs and cats that are currently vaccinated are kept under observation for 45 days.

Hate to say this, but you as the cat owner are now exposed to 'rabies'. You may have been bitten or scratched by your cat knowingly or unknowingly. Here is the official statement:

If an animal bites a human, the animal will be either quarantined or observed for a period of at least ten days to ensure that it does not have rabies. Whether or not the animal was currently vaccinated and the community that you live in will dictate the requirements of the quarantine. People that do become exposed to a rabid animal can be given post exposure vaccinations and a globulin (antibody) injection to protect them against becoming infected. Any person bitten by an animal should wash the wound thoroughly with soap and water and seek medical attention immediately.

Note: There is no treatment for rabies that can cure the disease once symptoms appear. Any treatment at that point involves managing symptoms and making the person comfortable (this is called supportive care). Death is almost certain once the rabies symptoms begin.
