Pigs rely more on their sense of smell than dogs. Dogs rely more on their sense of sight and hearing. Pigs are also more individually minded and less loyal and eager to please than dogs therefore harder to train. Although pigs have the edge as far as sense of smell is concerned, they are generally more difficult to train and motivate than dogs but may be useful in specialist operations such as explosives detection. Geva Zion, an Israeli dog trainer is working with pigs as an alternative to sniffer dogs, probably just to p*ss off the arabs!
a dog because if you were hunting a dear they would immediately smell you and run away but they don't do that. If you were hunting a dog then he would smell you out and start barking, go figure.
It depends on how the individual dog or cat is looked after. Grooming, diet, and overall care and health often dictate how good (or bad) the animal smells.
