First off, it's all one word...BluffRat. It's a negative name given to anyone who resides in Flour Bluff, a suburb on the outskirts of the coastal city of Corpus Christi. In the early 60's and 70's Flour Bluff was called the sewer of Corpus Christi and thus anyone living there were the Rats. Since the development of Padre Island, the National Sea Shore, and Naval Air Station Corpus Christi Flour Bluff has grown into one of the nicer, more developed areas of Corpus Christi and the locals there have embraced the once derogatory term.
