An airstone is a piece of aquarium furniture whose purpose is to diffuse oxygen gradually into a tank, eliminating the noise of conventional air filtration systems.

Does an airstone have to be installed to anything?

An airstone needs to be attached to an airline which is connected to an air pump.In a freshwater aquarium, air wands, stones or discs are important as they add oxygen to the water; this is even more important in a tropical tank as warmer water contains less oxygen.

Is an airstone needed in a freshwater aquarium?

An "airstone" is not neccessary. All species of fish must have their water looked after properly if they are to survive. The basic rules of successfull fishkeeping are. :- 1 inch of fish needs at least 1 gallon of water. :- Every tank must have a permanently running filter. :- Every tank must have at least 50% of its water replaced every week. An 'airstone' will simply create a current in the tank and a visual effect but it will not improve the water much at all. If the air pump is connected to a biological filter however, then you will have a real benefit from using the air pump.

Can Siamese fish lay eggs in moving tank water?

Not successfully. Moving water will likely knock the eggs out of the nest. The water should be near still with only an airstone present.

How many bubbles are in a fish bowl?

That depends on the capacity of the air pump and the fineness of the airstone. It will certainly be a lot and will also be an incalculable quantity since the bubbles are being destroyed and created almost simultaneously.

How long does a bubble bar airstone last in an aquarium?

A bubbler does virtually no good to your water. It's far better to attach the air pump to a filter and to get some real water improvement benefit from the airpump. I would not waste my time or money on an airstone unless I had a special reason for using one. You really must follow the basic rules of sucessfull fishkeeping if you want to keep fish succesfully. The basic rules are . :- 1 inch of fish must have at least 1 gallon of water. :- Every tank must have a permanently running 'cycled' filter. :- Every tank must have at least 50% of its water replaced every week.

Do air stones in a fish tank help every fish?

Airstones are really just for making your aquarium look nice. They however do help oxygenate you aqaurium which is good for all fish. The only thing in your aquarium they could possibly hurt is the plants and that only happens if your airstone and plant are right next to eachother.

Can a baby guppy fish stay in tank with its mother?

Not if you want it alive....mother guppies...as well as all other adult fish that would be in her tank, would eat the young fry. He will need his own seperate tank equipped with a sponge filter, heater, airstone and live plants until he is about 11 weeks old.

How do you make a home made Fry Saver for goldfish?

I use a small container. Poke some holes on one side of the container and stick a aquarium sponge to cover the holes so that the goldfish fry don't escape out. The container is then attached to the inside of the main tank. Then place an airstone to aerated the container that house the fry.

How do you take care of minnows in an aquarium?

Buy like a 10 gal. tank, buy an airstone, or sponge filter, sand, food, and obviously the minnows. get the tank, put the sand in, and set up the filter or airstone. Put the minnows in the tank, and feed them. depending on what kind they are, they might get big. For a while, they might just eat bread, or goldfish flakes.

What piece do the air pump go to?

Typically an airpump for an aquarium is attached to a long, thin (1/4") flexible tubing, called airline tubing. Then you can attach the other end of the airline tubing to a number of different things, the most common of which is called an airstone - this is a small, hard stone like attachment that breaks the air into smaller bubbles.

Putting Bala Sharks in a 75 gal. tank what do you need for your 75gal. tank?

You will needGravel/SandA good filter (like aquaclear)decor (optional)Vacuum (For gravel only)Plant (optional but recommended for most fish)Air Pump/Airline tubing/Airstone(optional)You don't need a lot but the tank, gravel, and filter will cost more than you think. Plus the decorations and plants so it will add up. If you get sand put it in before you buy the shark so it has time to clear up.
