Crocodiles, alligators, gharials & caimans are all of the same Crocodilia family. They evolved from marine crocodiles and, over time, divided and adapted to their habitats - the nile and saltwater crocodiles are big and muscular so that they can take down prey such as wildebeests, whereas others like the dwarf crocodile are small and nimble, enabling for swift and easy kills on smaller animals (and sometimes insects!) Hope that helped :)

Caimans belong to the same family as Alligators, and so are usually smaller than crocodiles (although the Black Caiman can reach lengths of 15 - 20FT!), they have smaller, U-shaped snouts, and their jaws are designed for crushing bone. Caimans also appear a darker colour (like alligators) than most crocodiles, and are generally not as fierce. Hope that helped :)

What are Female Crocodiles Called?

Female crocodiles are commonly referred to simply as "female crocodiles." In scientific terms, they are classified under the family Crocodylidae, and their specific species can have unique names, such as "female Nile crocodile" or "female American crocodile." Unlike some animals that have distinct names for males and females, crocodiles do not have a specific term for females beyond the general descriptor.
