Size: The house should be large enough to allow your dog to come inside, turn around, and lie down easily. If it's too large, it will allow too much cold air in in cold weather.
Vent: A vent at or near the top of the dog house will allow humidity toescape and fresh air to circulate.
Material: Water-proof material is a given for a dog house. Polypropylene, a high-impact insulated plastic is very good at keeping your dog warm in winter and cooler in summer.
Bedding: Washable bedding is best, but may not be feasible in your outside dog house. Bedding should be something that is a natural flea repellant. Check with your local vet, or farm supply for suggestions on bedding materials.

∙ 13y agoMost dogs can make great hose dogs, but it depends on how big your house is, the exersise you would give it, and if you have kids.
Small dogs can be yappy and bouncey. Most small dogs aren't best with kids, but can make great house dogs.
Dogs like a lab or golden retriever are good with children but need daily exersise ,but can adapt to just about any kind of house.
Dalmatians aren't the best dog around children either.
Big dogs like a Great Dane could easily hurt a child and they need regular exersise and don't go well in small houses.
I think the best kind of house dog is a lab or golden retiever.
