Your dog's house should be one that will protect him from the elements as well as make him feel safe and secure. Below is a checklist of qualities to look for in a good dog house:

Size: The house should be large enough to allow your dog to come inside, turn around, and lie down easily. If it's too large, it will allow too much cold air in in cold weather.

Vent: A vent at or near the top of the dog house will allow humidity toescape and fresh air to circulate.

Material: Water-proof material is a given for a dog house. Polypropylene, a high-impact insulated plastic is very good at keeping your dog warm in winter and cooler in summer.

Bedding: Washable bedding is best, but may not be feasible in your outside dog house. Bedding should be something that is a natural flea repellant. Check with your local vet, or farm supply for suggestions on bedding materials.
