The bottom jaw on a cat can shake for many reasons. There could be a congenital defect, a side effect of medication, or illness.
The best way is to palm the cats head, place your forefinger and thumb on opposite sides of the rear of the jaw. Then with the pill in your other hand, pull their mouth open with your middle finger and place the pill on the back of the tongue with your forefinger, then let go. It sounds tough and harsh but it works! :) The easiest way I've found is to kneel on the floor and place the cat between your knees, facing away from you. In this position, if the cat tries to back away from you when you open its jaw, it simply backs towards you. Then place the palm of your hand on the top of the cat's head, and use two fingers of the same hand to hold the cat's jaw at the front, near the upper canine teeth. Lift the jaw gently, and the mouth will easily open. Pop the pill into the cat's mouth as far back as you can on its tongue, and just touch the top of the inside of the mouth with your finger for a moment - this triggers a swallowing reflex. Let the cat's mouth close and put your hand under the jaw and stroke downwards for a few seconds to help the cat to swallow the pill. Give the cat a good calming cuddle afterwards since this kind of thing is scary for a cat and you should help the cat to calm down and put the incident behind it. Especially if it needs to take a course of pills.
In body strength, only lions and tigers are stronger. In jaw strength, they are as strong as the lion, and nearly as strong as the tiger.
Swollen glands under a cat's jaw are typically caused by an infection or inflammation. This could be due to dental issues, abscesses, respiratory infections, or even ingrown hair follicles. It is important to have your cat examined by a veterinarian to determine the underlying cause and provide appropriate treatment.
The dog's jaw moves up and down and from side to side, in a grinding motion. The jaws move sideways across the teeth. The cat's jaw moves only up and down, there is no side to side grinding motion. There is no sideways movement.
