It happens. If the chicken is young, setting the bone and splinting the leg will work as the bone will mend. With older hens it seldom does but you can try. There will be a lot of squalking but this is how you do it.

One person holds the bird firmly. Take the broken leg gently and give a small sharp tug from the foot. This is painful for the bird but you need to realign the bone. Hold the bird still and tape two wooden sticks on the outside of the leg (splint) Use medical tape and do not wrap too tight, tight enough to hold the leg in between the sticks but not enough to cut off circulation. The sticks can be old Ice cream/ popcicle type or wooden coffee stir sticks. Make them only as long as needed and never longer than the base of the foot. Watch for swelling over the next few days and keep the bird separate from the rest of the flock and supply it with plenty of fresh water. A water soluble Vitamin and antibiotic will help it recover.
