Depending what country you come from, if you are, or had been, sheep stealing, you can be punished by being arrested (which is the most minor punishment I can think of), to being executed (which is the most extreme punishment I can think of). Like I said, it all depends on where you come from. Some places like New Zealand or Scotland, you could be executed. But if you're in somewhere like... I don't know. Somewhere where they don't love their sheep so much, you would most likely be arrested for robbery, or possibly just fined.
Disfigurement was used as a means of marking slaves as belonging to a particular owner. That would be useful to help recover runaway slaves and to discourage other masters from stealing slaves.
It would depend what it was the first night of what would happen. If it is the first night of a marriage generally people go on a honeymoon.

Punishment fro stealing books from the library is the same punishment one would receive for any theft in the state.
it would depend on who from; anything from nothing to death
probation, fine, cost and any restitution IF its your first offense. you wont see jail time.
There is a law in islam about stealing. Those who steal his/her hands should be cut. Muhammad(pbuh) said "if her daughter has comitted the same mistake(stealing) then he would have given the same punishment.
"CONSPIRACY TO COMMIT" You would be charged the same as if you actually carried it out.
3 weeks Juvinal Hall.
There would be both state and federal charges available.
I'm not sure what punishment you would get for stealing $427 dolaars, but for $427 dollars in Canada it would be theft under $5000.00, which for a first offence would be probation or a fine. Likely for someone with a previous record something like 30 days or so if a fine/probation was considered to not be adequate.
no who the heck would think that no offense or any thing but really
I would hazard a guess that that was done as a punishment, and to deter people from stealing.
Sometimes. It depends on the person and the punishment. Some people commit an offense, get caught and punished, and stop doing it because they expect that they would be punished again. Some people do it again because the punishment was not as bad as committing the offense was good. And some people simply never believe they will get caught next time.
