All females can have different length in heat cycles. Rule of thumb for breeding a female dog is the 10th 12th and 14th day. Make sure you will be home to help birth puppies. They are alot of work, they must be kept warm and dry and socialized. no one wants dogs left at shelter because some one decided they were a breeder. Then didn't do the work and took the lazy way out and the cheapest route. The puppies pay dearly if they don't fit in to their homes due to being housed away from people. Breeding to the proper male to promote your breed is very very important. You should not just pick a dog. Look at their paper work make sure it compliments yours. Make sure both dogs are very healthy and have no genetic defects that can be passed to the pups. Finding home that will be "Good" for puppy for a life time is very hard work also. Remember things can go very wrong and be quite expensive when they do go wrong. Make sure you have about $1,500.00 placed back in case some thing goes bad. Like woman dogs do nothing at a conveiniant time. If you are looking into breeding to make money, You rarely do most of us just break even if you raise your puppies correctly you have alot of time wrapped up in your puppies and you would prolly make more flipping Hamburgers at MickyD's. If you are in it for love of the breed and understand how much money suppliments and extra's cost. Along with waking up sometimes every hour on the hour for a struggling puppy and that gives you joy. Then you are doing it for the right reasons. Your puppies will show your effort. Good Luck!

When to breed (if your dog is good enough)--2yrs How often--once a year. How long? from 2-8yrs (then retire) Do not breed un-qualified dogs or unhealthy dogs. Do not breed oversized or aggressive dogs. They come into heat every 6months, usually after 7months. Do not breed them till their third heat. When is the best time to mate a cow during her oestrous cycle?

The rule of thumb is that you need to breed a cow 12 hours after you see her show signs of estrus or heat. A bull will typically mate a cow during her heat period, but not when she's not in heat, which is the rest of the 17 to 24 days that she's not in heat.

Can your dogs breed on dogs 2?

Depending on the dog's age you can breed. A responsible breeder would only breed when the dog is, at least, one and a half years old. It is recommended that you breed when the dog is on the heat closest to its second birthday.

If a puppy doesn't get pregnant her first time in heat then how long before she comes into heat again?

Dogs are typically in heat twice a year or roughly every six months. That said; you should not breed a puppy. Most people agree you should wait until at least the second or third heat cycle before breeding a dog. Only breed a dog if it is one of the best examples of the given breed. Anything less is only adding to the over population problem.

When do want to get a dog pregnant?

Maybe in the summer or around January. This is when female dogs go into "Heat". This means that they are ready to breed.

When is the best time to a female dog when she is in heat?

The simple answer to this question is... Dont breed her !! If you need to ask this question you clearly do not know what you need to know to be able to breed safely. There is a huge over population of dogs and horrible disease ridden cross breeds that sick people breed for money. Be responsible and DONT BREED your dogs !!

When is the best time to breed a female dog?

Female dogs "go into heat" randomly, about twice a year. You should not breed her until she is about 3 years old, and you should have her checked out by a vet before you start.

Is it ok for your friend to breed her nine month old shih tzu with a Maltese?

I would say "no", it would not be okay to breed a 9 mnth old dog to any dog. Although a dog may be in heat does not necessarily mean that the dog is ready to care for pups. Among that it is highly suggested by veterinarians that a dog complete at least one heat before breeding , but for best conditions , the dogs involved should be 1 and 1/2 to 2 yrs of age. As far as which dogs to breed which dogs, there are many things to consider. You dont want to breed dogs that are to greatly difference in size. Also different breeds are prone to different types of conditions. If you have to types of dogs that are prone to alot , it may be best not to breed them in fear of producing a very ill pup. Before anyone considers breeding the first question should be "why do I want to do this?" If it is just to experience the event , it may be best not to breed.

What happens when your male dog goes through heat?

Male dogs do not go through heat. After adolescence (usually 4/5 months onwards, depending on breed) male dogs are usually able to successfully mate with a female dog who is in season (see below). Female dogs go through heat/a season, usually twice a year (again, depending on their breed). During this time they may bleed, like a human having a period, and are able to become pregnant if they are with an entire (uncastrated) male dog.
