After and explosion at the ConAgra Plant (maker of Penrose products) in 2009 the company discontinued the sale of their jarred sausages and pigs feet.

Ok, I have found the Penrose sausage jarred. Same sausage same formula, both hot and regular. In fact the sausages are of a little better quality meat but still have that same texture we love. Look for "Backroad Country" manufactured by Troyer Cheese, Inc, Millersburg OH 44645.

Why is a pickle called a pickle and not a pickled cucumber?

Its easier to say pickle than pickled cucumbers. Also when we are talking about pickles we don't specify between "bread and butter" pickles and "dill" pickles. It's just word economy. Pickling is the process of preserving food in brine. You can have pickled okra, peppers, olives, herring, cabbage, eggs, pigs feet, sausages, etc...

Do pickles come from eggs?

No, at least not ordinary pickles. You can pickle eggs, since just almost any small, porous substance can be pickled. Plant materials are usually pickled for this process, such as cucumbers, green beans, and mushrooms. Some animal products are pickled from time-to-time, however, including pigs feet and yes, eggs.
