There are Tarsiers in a number of countries and I suspect there may be some that don't realise they have them. There are four species of tarsiers left in the world. In Borneo you have the Tarsius Bancanus; In Indoneasia the Tarsius Spectrum and the dwarf species the Tarsius Pumilis, which was only discobered a few years ago and in the Philippines you have the Tarsius Syrichta. They all look very much the same to you and me. In the Philippines they can be found on the islands of Bohol, Leyte, Samar and Mindanao. Although they were known to be in north Mindanao they have only recently been confirmed near the town of Tupi in Souterhn Mindanao. This is why I say they might still exist elsewhere but we do not know about them. There are rumours all over Mindanao that they exist but these have never been confirmed. They are nocturnal animals rarely seen in the daytime and live deep inside the forests and jungle. They are also very shy and will leap great distacnes to get away from an approaching person. They can leap distances that a human cannot keep up with them. Put all that together and it is no wonder that they are still being found in places where they were thought to be extinct.
