Glow worms are actually beetles or flies. Some (Phengodidae of North and South America, and Lampyridae world wide) live in soil and leaf litter and eat other small insects. Others, like the Arachnocampa of New Zealand and Australia live most of their lives as larvae on the ceilings of caves. They hang down sticky webs to catch other small insects.
