Cats are descended from desert-dwelling sand cats, and so they were originally found in Egypt and the Middle East. These days cats live in the wild anywhere that it's warm or temperate (they can't survive very cold weather without shelter) and all over the world as indoor pets.

That depends on the cat. For a domestic cat it could be your house or apartment or your yard and porch. For some domestic cats it is the neighborhood they live in. In the case of feral cats, they can live in many habitats. Some live in colonies on islands.

In regards to the bigger wild cats, again it depends on the cat.

  • Lions inhabit the plains of Africa as well as the forests of parts of India and Asia.
  • Cheetahs inhabit the plains of Africa.
  • Leopards inhabit the bush of Africa and parts of Asia and India.
  • Jaguars inhabit the forests of a very small part of the US (there is a very small population in Arizona), as well as Mexico and parts of Central and South America.
  • Snow Leopards are native to the mountain ranges of Central Asia.
  • Clouded leopards are native to the forests of Southeast Asia.
  • Pumas live in many habitats including mountains and forests in the western US and the swamps of Florida. They also inhabit South America.
  • Ocelots are mostly found in dense forests of Mexico, Central America and South America.
  • Caracals inhabit the steppes and drier regions of Africa and the Middle East.
  • Servals inhabit the savanna of sub-Saharan Africa.
  • Bobcats inhabit many areas of southern Canada, the US and Mexico. Bobcats are versatile animals and can easily adapt to different habitats.
  • The Spanish Lynx can be found in a very small area of Spain and inhabits the wetlands and uplands in that area.
  • The Eurasian Lynx inhabits the open woods and rocky mountains of Northern Europe and Eastern Asia.
  • Jungle cats inhabit the swamps, marshes and river banks of parts of Asia and Northeastern Africa.
  • Sand cats inhabit the deserts of western Africa and parts of Asia.
  • Marbled cats inhabit the lowland tropical forests of South and Southeast Asia.
  • The African Golden Cat inhabits the forests of West and Central Africa.
  • Fishing cats are native to the rivers, marshes and swamps of South and Southeast Asia.
  • Flat-headed cats are native to the forests of Southeast Asia.
  • Andean cats inhabit the dry Andean slopes in western South America.
  • Kodkods inhabit the forests of the foothills of the Andes Mountains in western South America.
  • Geoffroy's cat are native to the forests of Central and South America.
  • Margays inhabit the forests of southern North America, Central America and South America. The Margay can normally be found in the trees.
  • Tigers are native to Southern Asia and Eastern Asia. Their habitats range from the forests of India to the cold woodlands of Siberia.
  • Jaguarundi's are native to the forests and swamps of the southern US down into South America.

This list is not exhaustive of all of the cats around the world but it gives a good overview of many of the world's felines and their habitats. Most of this information came from either Wikipedia or the book Animal. The rest was information that I knew already due to my love of felines.

Felines tend to enjoy being in subfreezing environments. Domestic cats really enjoy being put in the freezer for a couple hours a day. They also like to be put in compact spaces with fellow cats. I am actually a cat specialist, so i would know!

Now it depends if your talking about the Bengal tiger or the Bengal domestic cat. Bengal tigers can be found in India I believe they live mostly in forest, but the Bengal cat which is a cross between domestic felines and an Asian leopard cat. The Bengal cat was created for the purpose of a house cat so its habitat would be in the home of a human.
