there is a eastern and a western hognose snake, easterns can be found in the pinelands of New Jersey while the western can be found in mountins and deserts of California ect.

Ummm.... I belive when they bite the area will swell up a couple of days but will have no other affects. Make sure the snake is Hog Nosed.
ALL snake bites hurt to some extent ! However - Hognose snakes are only a small species (typical adults are only 24 inches long), and the bite is more of a discomfort than painful.
