they are two different species, allowing them to have different features.
details seen on both alligators and crocodiles can differentiate them. these features include:
alligators are usually dark green/black with wide rounded U shaped snouts and tiny black spots.
crocodiles are bigger than alligators with longer + thinner V shaped snouts and tend to be more aggressive.

Some differences between alligators and sharks are:Sharks are fish and alligators are repriles.Alligators have legs and sharks do not.Sharks live in oceans and alligators live on land/water.Sharks have gills and alligators have lungs.
the average alligator has a larger snout than a crocodile
A crocodile's head is more narrow and the snout comes to more of a point as compared to an alligator. An alligator's snout is blunt - more of a U-shape. I try to remember the difference by thinking that if the nose is pointed like a capital "A", then it is not an Alligator. It's a bit tough to remember since it is a negative. Another memory jog - though negative - would be if the snout is rounded (a capital "C" is rounded) it is not a Crocodile.
There isn't much of a color variation between alligators and crocodiles. The biggest difference between the two animals is the shape of their jaws and teeth placement.
