They are like other Spiders and eat mosquitoes, gnats, aphids, as well as other house and garden pests. Unlike other spiders, they are not reported to have ever bitten a human being so far as I know. They do not make invasive or annoying webs, and are generally very secretive. An interesting side-note is that unlike other spiders they have binocular vision and can see in color. There is also a species (portia) that lives in Australia that is unique to science in that they seem to 'learn' different styles of hunting and are intelligent enough to apply them to different prey types.

Arachnids will eat other insects that may be able to harm you. They also have a part to play. Birds will eat them or some spiders will eat birds like the hawk eating tarantula. They can be an important source of food for some animals.
