A White Tiger is caused by a recessive gene that is passed on by a parent. So that the cub has the recessive gene itself. There is another genetic cause for the stripes to be lighter. These tigers are referred to as the Snow-White or Pure-White, and they carry two copies of the recessive gene. They are very rare, and created mostly by man.
