The hens love to put all their eggs in one basket :)

Really,There is safety in numbers, they are looking for a safe place to lay their eggs, if another hen has already lain in that nest the next hen looking in figures it must be safe place, her eggs will be place right in the middle of the group so if something hungry comes around to eat the eggs, like a rat or raccoon they will start with the ones at the edges.

How do chickens relocate their eggs from nest to nest?

They do not normally do this. Chickens cannot pick an egg up and move it. They will roll eggs out of a nest and they will roll them into the nest if they find one close by in the hay or bedding.

Does a bandy rooster lay on the eggs in the nest while the hens are not?

No, Bantam roosters do not take care of eggs, his job is to fertilize those eggs, guard the chickens from predators, and crow.

Do chickens poo and lay eggs out the same hole?

Yes actually they do, I have owned chickens since i was 10 years old and everyday i gather eggs and have to wash them off,it also may depend on if the chickens roost in on or around their laying boxes if the laying box has a top than they probably wont poop on the eggs but most chickens will end up roosting ON TOP of the laying boxes and poop on the eggs while they sleep, just because you provide a roost away from the laying boxes doesn't mean they will sleep on itmy chickens have a roost away from the laying boxes but getting them to sleep there is impossible. If they have found an outdoor nest to lay eggs the answer is NO, the chicken will not poop in the nest or around it as long as their roost is not above the nest.Another answer: Chicken may well lay eggs in the same locations that they also 'poop' in but they don't lay eggs from the same bodily orifice from which they have a 'poop' which appears to be what the question is asking.

Do hens need their own nest or will they share with another hen?

Hens typically prefer to have their own nest to lay eggs in, as sharing a nest can lead to competition and aggression. Providing each hen with its own nest box can help reduce stress and ensure that each hen has a safe and comfortable place to lay eggs.

Will two chickens lay eggs in the same nest?

Yes, and one nest will usually be more than enough for two hens. Two or more chickens will often lay in the same nest if it is a 'favorite', or if there simply aren't enough good, clean, or (in their opinion) 'safe' nests.

How do chicken eggs hatch at the same time?

Chickens are creatures of habit. They can change nests, and often do, but for a stretch, they like one nest and one nest only. And there are usually fewer nest boxes than hens. When a broody hen claims one box to sit in, and other hens really like that particular box, there is a bit of a problem as to everyone getting time enough to sit. They will fuss and fume, but not actually fight for the nest. It's more interesting to watch ducks. They will chose a nesting area. If one duck builds a good nest, then several ducks will share it. I've seen as many as 6 ducks at one time sharing a nest. It's almost like they like each other's company. The last duck to lay a egg is the one responsible for covering the eggs with down or dried grass. I've never seen them fuss about being the primary duck in the nest, like the chickens do. In the wild, this may be a protective feature of the birds. If all the eggs are in one "basket", then all the hens/ducks will share in protecting the eggs from danger.

What do you put in the chicken coop besides hay before your chicken will lay eggs?

Technically, chickens don't even need hay to lay their eggs. Once they are old enough, around 20 weeks old, they will start laying eggs anywhere they can lay down and nest down in. But it is nice to have a 12 inch by 12 inch box filled with a layer of hay for the chickens to nest in.

Why are your chickens laying on the ground and not in their nesting boxes like they did before?

Most often this is caused by another hen using the nest when others are ready to lay. If a hen cannot lay in a nest they will find a convenient place just about anywhere. You might also want to freshen the nesting material in the nest daily. Some hens will not lay where another hen has soiled.
