Alligators are born top - water feeders... something about the sound a marshmallowmakes hitting the water and the way it bobs around does attract their attention. Maybe the initial instinct is "maybe it's something a bird dropped that I can eat" who knows what the ages have taught these animals, but they are always more than willing to take a meal they don't have to work for.
Many Golf courses that have switched over to the floating balls are finding that alligators have a taste for these as well... not nearly as yummy as a marshmallow, and probably difficult to pass, but gators eat them. Fishing bobbers are another delicacy at times.

Alligators are native to most continents in the world but they are not found in Australia.Australia has crocodiles which, although members of the crocodilian family (like alligators), are quite different to alligators.
Marshmallows do not contain pigs' feet. Traditional marshmallows are typically made from sugar, water, gelatin, and flavorings. Gelatin is derived from collagen, which can come from animal sources like pigs, but there are also vegan marshmallows available that use plant-based alternatives to gelatin.
Alligators are native to the Southeastern United States, particularly in states like Florida, Louisiana, Georgia, and Alabama. They typically inhabit freshwater environments like swamps, marshes, and rivers. Alligators have been around for millions of years and are closely related to crocodiles.
Who knows why? Perhaps alligators like marshmallows for the exact same reason humans like marshmallows. P.S. This shouldn't be considered a "bizarre question" that "make[s you] laugh" or "amuse[s]" you. It's a valid question based on the fifth "True Blood" episode from Season 4 called "Me and the Devil" (the 41st episode overall), which aired on July 24, 2011 on HBO.
