Because they associate the shadow with danger (it is an innate response). As the bird grows older it learns only to run away from other birds shadows.
A raptor was closely related to a bird because when the raptors or two legged herbivores were running away from predators then as they ran away they had to run up steeper things too get away and that is how they developed wings to help then get up steeper things.
If the baby rabbits are old enough to have run away from the nest, then there is no reason to worry. the young rabbits know where home is and will not stray far from it. It is a natural instinct to run away from a predator, hence humans, and they never run very far from their nest when they do run.
Birds as a Specie have compared to humans incredibly fast reflexes. So as it appears two are going to collide they actually know perfectly well of what is happening and have plenty of time to turn away from each other :)
