Sometimes the cat may just be playful and scratch without really meaning it. Sometimes cats will lick your 'wound' just to show they're playing. Or other times they may be showing aggressive behavior because you've been annoying them or are in there territory. Which in that case you should go and leave your cat alone for a couple hours so you and your cat can calm down.
cats most likely want to be scratched because:
they may also want to be scratched just to rub their scent on you.
maybe they're mad at you because you yelled at them or u were playing to rough with them. or maybe they just wanted to be left alone and you didnt leave them alone...
they don't wanna be picked up

He is not scratching...he is covering up his poop or pee!Cats do this to cover the scent of their urine and feces so that predators will not be able to find them easily.
first of all, cat scratch fever is harmless, and i would know because i had it before. no, you do not have to get rid of your cats. cat scratch fever lasts a while, i don't know all of the symptoms, but i do know it gives you a rash on your neck, across your chest and inside the crease in your legs and arms. i have three cats and while i had CSF, and i didn't have to get rid of them. hope that helped :) :)
Yes, it is now thought that all cats, even "big" cats that can roar, can purr. Big cats, with their specially-designed specially-designed larynx's and hyoid bone in the throat that enable them to roar, can only make a purring sound when exhaling, and not in a constant stream like other cats. It is unclear why cats purr, although it is well known that domestic cats purr when content, to show affection or to comfort themselves when sick or in pain.
So they can scratch it if they have an itch.

Scratch posts can be helpful in stopping cats from scratching furniture. They should be placed near furniture so that cats will choose them instead of the furniture. It also helps to cover your furniture with plastic when you first put the scratch posts out so they are the only thing the cat can scratch until they get used to it.
It is unlikely for an adult to contract scratch fever. You can catch cat scratch fever by getting scratched bitten by a kitten, but this is very uncommon. Getting scratched by a kitten does not automatically mean you have scratch fever.
It's their way of saying, come on scratch me some more.
