Believe it or not, it is a very odd teaching tool. I watched a mother squirrel do just that...over and over. She would pick up the baby in her mouth, climb the tree, then go out on a limb, and holding on to it, she would lower the baby as close to the ground as possible and drop it. In this instance he'd only fall about 6'. Then she would race down the tree and nudge the baby very close to the trunk of the tree. She'd wait about 30 seconds and then go through the entire routine again. I eventually realized that her pushing the baby toward the trunk of the tree and waiting, was to see if he got the idea that he was supposed to climb. After doing this about 4 or 5 times, he put a foot/ paw up and she'd wait longer. But if he pulled it back down, she'd pick him up and race up the tree and drop him again. After about half an hour he was standing on his hind legs with front feet up on the tree but still hadn't climbed.

if a baby squirrel falls from a tree, the parents will retreve them and return them safely. If not then the baby doesn't have a chance of surviving on it's own and may die.

How long do squirrels stay pregnant?

8-1o weeks on the average or the mother may move them , one at a time, if she feels threatened.Baby squirrel's usually stay with their mother for about 8-10 weeks. A mother squirrel may move her babies to another location in those 8-10 weeks if she feels threatened. If you ever see a mother squirrel with her young hanging from the scuff of his or her neck in the mothers mouth this is totally normal , that is what they may do to move them. If you ever see that please do not chase the poor squirrel for she will drop her young and won't come back for him or her , then that will result in many possible ways of death for the young squirrel.

Will a raccoon eat a red squirrel?

No, Raccoons do not like to eat other animals (but they do eat fish) they mainly eat berries, plants and trash. hmmm well i beg to differ i came across this video on youtube like you i thought they did not eat squirrels http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ERwqbdAIY04 I disagree. I just watched a raccoon attack a squirrels nest in tree, and eat the babies and the mom or dad (not sure). The only survivors was: one adult, one or two baby squirrel. Was horrible. I saw the babies drop out of the nest and the hit the ground as the adult frantically tried to save them. Then the raccoon just sat in the nest for 3 hours and chomped away, tearing off the fur and flesh as he ate them. The adult and one baby (teenager i guess) tried to attack, but it was in vain. Then, the fat ass raccoon, threw the dead carcass out of the nest and walked away.

Why do little dogs playfully bite?

It's a bit like why babies suck things. They are learning how to use their mouth. Slightly older puppies will playfully bite because that is what they would do with their brothers and sisters to learn how to fight later in life. This doesn't mean that if they do playfully bite young in life, they will bite as they get older. If you don't want them to, tell them 'no' in a commanding voice, and over time they will drop the habit.

Yes, giraffes can have babies! They are about 6 feet long and weigh roughly 150 pounds at birth. They drop about 5/6 feet to the ground since mother giraffes do not lay down when giving birth.
