The 1 kilogram bag of birdseed will last 40 days, if 25 grams are continously placed in the feeder each day.
When I first put my food out in early spring (when it's still freezing at night, before my first sighting), I change it out once a week. After I see my first bird, I change it every 4 days or so until summer. Once it's hot out, though, as my feeder hangs from under the roof of the porch and get quite heated, I change it every 3 days - any longer and the food will start to sour. Also, it's important to thoroughly clean the feeder with hot water, and mild soap (be sure to rinse well). I use organic sugar (evaporated cane juice). I typically have more activity at my feeder than my neighbors, even without any flowers or garden to speak of, and with the feeder right there on the porch. I'm not sure if they like the organic sugar better or not - it's just what I use - but I know I change the food more often than my neighbors, so I suspect that is the real reason - yummy food!
Sugar water turns milky or cloudy because of yeast . Hummingbird nectar needs to be changed more often especially in warmer weather. Also, boil the nectar for 2-3 minutes and cool before serving.
To make food for hummingbirds, you can mix four parts water with one part granulated sugar. Boil the mixture for 1-2 minutes, then let it cool before filling your hummingbird feeder. Remember to clean and refill the feeder every 2-3 days to prevent mold growth.
I would guess green because they eat grass, which is green. Besides that, you have to do an experiment. another person:I did the experiment and the birds ate the plain birdseed more than red, yellow, blue, and green (I only used five colors). My hypothesis was that they'd eat green more, though. Maybe they ate the plain one more because their used to eating that color of birdseed.
Different types of seeds attract different types of birds. For example, sunflower seeds attract finches and sparrows, while peanuts attract woodpeckers and jays. Choosing a variety of seeds can attract a diverse range of bird species to your feeder.

Nocturnal creatures that might be draining the hummingbird feeder could include bats, flying squirrels, or raccoons. These animals are active at night and may be attracted to the sweet nectar in the feeder. It's important to secure the feeder at night to prevent these animals from emptying it.

Me, plus about every carnivore and opportunist feeder that shares their habitat - fox, wolves, coyote, mink, stoats, rats, etc. etc. etc.
Sometimes a bird will guard a feeder and not let other birds come near. Not always a male. I have 7 feeders every year and one is off to the side of the others for a female that has guarded it during the migration for the last two years!
