I had this problem with my 1998 Lumina . sometimes it would start but not very often. Sprayed WD40 in the key hole and Blew it out with compressed air. Cleaned the chip on the key. Starts every time now.

within the battery a chemical reaction takes place which generate the electrical signals in remote.
Look for accidentally disconnected connectors around the battery and stuff... and check the fuse links from the battery... good luck dave check all fuses underneth hood and inside the truck
It contains two relays, one for hazard lights and the other for turn signals. The one for the turn signals is defective and must be replaced.
A dead battery
Turn signals just quit working- have replaced flasher- checked all bulbs and fuses, checked all obvious wires, cleaned grounds, replaced the turn signal switch (that was an adventure). At a loss- any help out there? Hazards work fine- all other lights work fine- turn signals dead

I just took my 97 sebring convertable in for no turn signals, wipers, rear defroster and radio. They replaced the ignition switch and now everthing works.
There are a couple of reasons why the turn signals will not work on a 1998 Ford Explorer. The light bulbs may need replaced or a fuse has blown.
If you replaced the flasher on your 1999 Mercury Cougar and your turn signals are still not working, you should check the turn signal fuse. This fuse is located under the dashboard on the driver's side of the vehicle to the left of the steering column.
