A better diagram of serpentine belt for belt routing than auto zone the belt around water pump is flat side against the pully shouldn't the ridged edge be against the pully instead?

Does the water pump pulley have grooves in it? If so, then the ridges should ride in those grooves. If the pulley is flat, the back side of the belt powers it.

You might call the auto parts store and ask them to look to see if the diagram comes with the belt. If it matters my belt was from Advance Auto Parts and was the better one (1 YR warranty instead of 90 days). I forgot the brand.

It's easier with a helper. First make sure you have a routing diagram before you remove it (usually under hood). Next find topmost smooth pulley (not ribbed)-that's an idler. Find a socket that fits the bolt in the middle and a long handled wrench. Move it right against spring tension using that bolt to create slack in belt. (Note-if it moves left, same concept, use pry bar instead) while you do that someone can remove belt. Reverse to install.
