The ESR level is pretty normal for a 78-year-old: a general guideline is that it should be roughly less than the age divided by 2, or for a woman, age+10 divided by 2. So for a male, it is a touch high, but for a female, it is okay.
However, hemoglobin of 9.5 is rather low. This should be investigated further.
For an infant, normal hemoglobin is 14-22 g/dL
The normal hemoglobin level ranges from 12-18 grams per deciliter. Above normal hemoglobin levels may result in dehydration, excess production of rbc in bone marrow and other conditions.

Hemoglobin levelscan rise above the normal range, and it can be indicative of a number of disorders, such as congenital heart disease, pulmonary fibrosis, or an increase level of erythopoietin.

Fetal hemoglobin (Hemoglobin F), Alkali-resistant hemoglobin, HBF (or Hb F), is the major hemoglobin component in the bloodstream of the fetus. After birth, it decreases rapidly until only traces are found in normal.
A normal hemoglobin level for a female is 12.1 to 15.1 grams per deciliter. Hemoglobin is the part of the red blood cell that carries oxygen.
Hemoglobin is measured in grams per deciliter of blood. The normal levels are:Women: 12.1 to 15.1 gm/dlMen: 13.8 to 17.2 gm/dlChildren: 11 to 16 g/dlPregnant women: 11 to 12 g/dl
normal haemoglobin level in 6 weeks of pregnancy is 1o-11gm%
This information can be used to help physician's diagnose and monitor anemia (a low hemoglobin level) and polycythemia vera (a high hemoglobin level).
Normal levels of hemoglobin reading in children is 11 to 16 g/dl, grams per deciliter.
