There is no meaningful message or metaphor for doing an Easter egg hunt on Easter. It is simply a Western idea that rakes in the money for supermarkets, and provides some fun …for the children.
For Catholics, Jesus died in Easter so the egg symbol represents new life, just as Jesus rose 3 days later!
Look for all the bunny tracks.... that's a good clue...
This will depend on where you are hiding the eggs. Fun ideas for clues would be having them rhyme or creating a scavenger hunt where one clue leads to the next. This chick …is chilly... If you are hiding something in the fridge. This egg is growing... If you are hiding it with a plant Spot wants to play. I hope I don't break.. If you are hiding it near a dog toy. It's a good thing I will be able to swim one day... If you are hiding it in a bathtub Round and round I go. Will I break? Nobody knows!... If you are hiding it in a washer/dryer. Get creative with it. It's all about where the best hiding spots are available for use and coming up with something fun to help your players get to the eggs.
In many cultures, the egg symbolizes new life, fertility, andrebirth. This certainly fits in the spirit and meaning of Easter.
It is not exactly certain how Easter egg hunting originated. In Northern Europe the egg was symbol of fertility and the rabbit was an animal that represented rebirth. The Godd…ess of Ostara, according to folklore, turned a bird into a rabbit (The reason is not known. It could have been done to amuse some children.) and gave it the ability to lay eggs so that it could still feel like it was a bird. That is why there is the Easter Bunny. But soon the rabbit angered the goddess and she said the rabbit had to give away the eggs. Maybe that is why people hide eggs and hold egg hunts. They want to keep the folklore alive. Or, the Christians created the game of an egg hunt during the "Burning Times" because they wanted 'shun' the "Old Religion" by hiding eggs from kids instead of giving eggs to the adults.
