Cats can be very vicious, yes. When they find prey -- mice or small birds -- they won't just kill it. They play with it and torture it for hours. Like, they'll maim it until it can barely walk, and then let it walk away a little bit, and then catch it again, bat it around for awhile, let it escape again... It goes on and on forever. Even the friendliest, cuddliest, most affectionate cat in the world becomes a sadistic killer when a mouse is around.

I've had two mice in my apartment (that I know of). I came downstairs one morning to find the first one. Nothing was left except a tail, a back foot, and a piece of intestine. The next time, I woke up in the middle of the night, and the two cats had cornered this mouse and were terrorizing it -- basically, just chasing it for the fun of chasing it.

It wasn't wounded yet, but it was shaking like crazy. I put it in a shoe box, figuring it would die later in the night. But when I got up the next day, the top of the box was open a little, and the mouse was gone. Then a few days later he reappeared in one of my sneakers (I found him when I noticed one of the cats attacking the sneaker), so I had to take him out and leave him in the community garden a few blocks down.
