Gypsies are not any lost tribe of Judaism. The Gypsies are of Rumanian extraction, coming from the European countries. All lost tribes that have been found (and there are many) all share a common set of traits which include honesty, fair play, and traditional cultures. Gypsies and travelers do not share these traits except clannishness which is traditional culture. well i am a gypsy and i find this answer to be very degrading and want to let you that we are very family oriented and fair and honest but its people like you make us look bad not cool

Familial History: 14th Century accounts of the Roma (the People) recorded Pilgrims from Lesser Egypt. Hence the name "GYPSY".

It seems our ancestors fled en-masse from a northern kingdom in the Indian Subcontinent sometimes before the 10th Century. We migrated through the Persian Empire where some of the first historical accounts describe the Gypsies as artisans and musicians. Around the year 1000 AD the Roma arrived in Byzantium where they were recorded as Prophets, Fortune Tellers and holders of ancient, magical Knowledge.

Subsequently they were persecuted, kept as slaves and murdered through much of European history. Some have achieved fame and acceptance, our music coloured the dreams of Nations. You can hear it through melodies from Klezmer and Classical Music to Jazz.

Gypsies and Jews have lived together for the past millennia, married and died in the same ghettos, loved and played music together. Metaphor or not, the Myth is true: We the Roma are the Lost Tribe of Israel.
