In the state of PA if a pregnant teenage child is NOT emancipated either by a judge or a state agency (if the child does not require state/federal assistance); then they are still responsible for child support. It's actually not as easy as one might believe to relinquish parental rights in PA. In fact, these scenarios could actually occur, and HAVE occurred:

1. If the non-custodial parent is providing child support for a pregnant teenager, then they are still liable for the child support until:

a.) child is emancipated by judge state agency

b.) child graduates HS and reaches majority at age 18 (whichever is the latter.)

c.) custodial parent marries, non-custodial signs over rights, and new husband adopts child.

2. If the non-custodial parent is providing child support to a child that gets someone else pregnant, they could ALSO be financially obligated to provide support to their grandchild if the mother of said grandchild requires state/federal assistance until their son:

a) gets emancipated by judge or state agency

b.) graduates HS or reaches majority (whichever is the latter.)

c.) custodial parent marries, non-custodial signs over rights, and new husband adopts child.

What are the laws on teenage pregnancy in Maryland?

There are not any laws on teenage pregnancy in Maryland. If you are pregnant at this age, you need to talk to your parents so they can help you make decisions on how you are going to raise the child.

Do child support payments have to be made to custodial parent if child is pregnant?

If you live in the US... Being pregnant/having a child does not emancipate a minor. Therefore, the minor's parents are still responsible for supporting them (but not for supporting the minor's child), and the child support must still be paid.

Does a 14-year-old child's father still have to pay child support even though she's pregnant?

Yes. A pregnant fourteen year old still depends on her parents for support- both her custodial and non-custodial parents. In fact, her needs are increased. You can read more about termination of child support at the related link.

I am in California...If a child gets pregnant while living with her mother does the father have to pay child support for the child's child as well?

Child support for the grandchild is the responsibility of the grandchilds father, not the grandchild. If the father is a minor, you can take his parents to court for support.
