Yes. "Gum tree" is e colloquial name for the eucalyptus, of which there are hundreds of varieties in Australia. It was Sir Joseph Banks, the botanist who travelled with James Cook in 1770, who brought the eucalyptus to the rest of the world, taking specimens with him on board the Endeavour.

Eucalyptus a not native to anywhere else in the world, though it is commonly thought that they are.

Yes but most of them are plantation trees. The real Christmas trees here are just about all small radiata pine trees.

There are native species of pine trees, such as the Bunya Pine, which is quite prolific in parts of southeast Queensland (hence the name "Bunya Mountains"), but is very different to Christmas pine trees. Similarly, the hoop pine is native to Australia, and very different to Christmas pines.
