Yes and no.
The games you are able to play in your DS XL can also be played in your 3DS, but they will not be in 3D. The 3DS games can only be played in your 3DS, and not in your DS XL (or any previous model) at all.

∙ 13y agoThe DSI can play every official DS/DS lite game.
however, games which require a Slot-2 pak to be inserted will not work as expected, as there is no slot-2 on a DSI. for example, Guitar Hero: On Tour requires a controller to be plugged into the slot-2. =)
