If however the women is knowingly (and willingly) offering yourself for sale it depends on the people involved. A man orders a human being with specifications like buying a new car. A woman offers herself by showing only what the customer will find attractive. The broker will only tell both what they want to hear and collect their fee. The making of a fairy tale!

But you asked about the effort. You can make the effort to find a person that has enough similar expectations and goals, someone that you are able to communicate and cooperate with as a person. It will take a lot more effort and time to find someone like that long distance than in your own home town. But if you're not willing to put in the effort, if all the effort you're willing to invest is to 'pick someone out of a catalog' and pay the expense, then you will get a bride but you won't get a wife or a partner. And you will most likely get increasing trouble and headaches as the bride becomes the person she really is; how long does a woman remain a bride...

You get what you pay for. This is not a joke. You are saying that you want a human being obtained like a piece of merchandise, but you're not willing to pay much. Circumstances for mail order brides are at best flawed and you want be cheap on top of that! You're thinking of slave, not bride.
