I don't know for sure if there are scorpions in Ohio, however I was climbing a very rocky/dirt cliff at the Metro Park in Euclid, Ohio (suburb of Cleveland) and something crawled out and stung me on my left arm. I never saw what it was. My entire arm went numb. There was minor pain and some swelling at the site of the sting. The numbness lasted several hours and then gradually went away. I've been trying to find out if there are scorpions in Ohio. I guess it could have been some sort of Wasp. I've always wondered if it was a scorpion though.. Why do scorpions have poison?

Answer 1 To kill creatures that eat them, or try to eat them. Even of the scorpion is eaten, the predator also dies or gets pretty sick. Eventually, predators have learned not to mess around with scorpions, thus keeping the population scorpions intact and breeding more scorpions.. Answer 2 Venom is what they have. Venom is injeCted, Poison is injeSted, hence "Antivenom" or more correctly "Antivenin". Ever heard of "Antipoison"? Me neither. Just one letter different makes them edible. YUM haha .Actually nice deep fried but yukky raw. As a general rule, small nipper scorpions use strong venom in their tail as their weapon, while most large nipper scorpions use their pincers because their venom is weaker. So, if you see a small nipper scorpion, rest assured, it packs a big punch at the other end.
