Short-Staple Cotton
The union of slavery and cotton were able to impede the South's development into two important areas, the industries and railroad. The union slavery and cotton were also central to the South's prosperity.
Growing cotton became more profitable, and slaves were needed to grow the cotton. Apex ;)
after the cotton gin was invented there was no need for slavery because they machine did all of the work -----Holy crap dude your dumb. (After the cotton gin was invented, slavery increased because there was a bigger demand for cotton.) Stop answering questions you don't know the answer to.
We needed cotton pickers for our clothes.
Because it enabled the huge growth of the cotton industry, whereby the South became a great cotton empire, able to compete economically with the North, but dependent on slavery.
Not all of the north thought slavery was bad and the people who were against slavery were in the north because the farms in the south needed them to tend fields and harvest cotton. Then if a slave escaped and became a northern citizen, they would obviously be against slavery.
Mainly because the cotton farms needed a lot of manpower, and also because they had become rich and lazy I presume.
Because slavery was the mainstay of the cotton industry.
