I've been there, done that, after 23 years. The best thing is to figure out what you need (don't keep the house if it has a mortgage and you are not working) and try for that. If you are not in a large city, $30-35,000 is pretty decent to cover expenses if you are not working and watch your dollars and cents.
Don't trust that maintenance will cover the expenses of your current lifestyle. If you are under retirement age, and the divorce is not amicable, obtain a job so that you are not dependent on the payments. Often, you will get two years' if there are no children, more if he has a significant income. If you have the better lawyer (and are not in Texas), you may end up comfortable.
