Either all brake light bulbs are bad, and yes it is common for all the bulbs to fail with in a day or two.
Or the signal light switch has an internal problem.
The switch is on the roof, above the center rear-view mirror. It's a simple rocker switch.
Just pull the parking brake up one click. It won't engage the brake, but it bypasses the headlights.
If your question is what I think it is than the answer is yes. There is a switch that turns your brake lights on, it is also the same switch that releases the gearshift that will allow you to remove the vehicle from park. You should be able to hear a little click when you depress the brake pedel. If you don't hear that click and your brake lights are not coming on and you cant get it out of park than I would definitely take a look at that switch, It is usually located right on the pedel mechanism itself.
check the netural safety switch on the transmission valve body. only if auto trans
look down by the transmission under the car.
bad switch...check your fueses.. If you have a manual trans the switch in the top of the trans is bad. Look straigtht down from the back of the battery You will see a switch with a two wire plug in the top of the trans. shift tower Unplug the switch andf jump the two wires If your lights come on replace the switch
Look for a separate fuse to the third brakelight.
Put a new bulb in the side that isn't working.
2001 or older has 3 speed trans it is neutal safety switch or wire at switch drivers side under car front 3 wires round switch in trans. 2002 and up has 4 speed trans could be trans range sensor or alot of possible causes.
we have turn signals but no back up brake or warning signals we get power to signal switch on transmission but not beyond that point should this modual be changed keep in mind that this is a 1981 ford f150 and if this modual is changed will that help?
on what vehicle ? ford Chevy crosley fiat yogo ? there could be more than one switch usually the reverse light switch is located on the trans
I would think you probably have 2 problems. Check the brake light switch on the pedal first and get the light s to go off then you may have to take the console off and clean the linkage for the trans as coffee and cokes get spilled on them and cause them to stick.
