Yes, a bad distributor can cause the engine to fail to run, the distributor (distributes) a spark to the spark plugs that ignite the air/fuel mixture, if it is malfunctioning there might be no spark at all, there may be spark at only a few spark plugs, or the output may be intermittently bad which can make troubleshooting difficult.
Yes, it could but so could many other possibilities. To diagnose the problem, it would be best to have the year, make, model, engine info and any DTCs (Diagnostic Trouble Codes) it may have. Make sure you have checked for spark and fuel.
no
The engine power reduced light will turn on in Chevrolet HHR when a failure is detected in one of the sensors or engine components. An OBD II code reader can determine the cause and help with making repairs.
there is no distributor, there is a power pack that houses the coils under the cover that has 2.4 marked on it
yes a power train control module failure can cause transmission problems.
It would be helpful to know what year vehicle you have as there are two different ignition systems used on the Chevy Celebrity. Possible reasons for not getting spark in a distributor equipped engine: 1982 to 1986 Distributor cap or rotor defective Reluctor failed Pickup coil failure Ignition module failed wiring or plug in connections loose corroded or failed Coil failed, or coil wire to distributor failed No power to the distributor or coil Possible reasons for not getting spark in a distributor less system: 1987 to 1990 Failed crankshaft position sensor Failed ignition module Failure in wiring or engine computer
I have the same problem with my 95 Eagle. It isn't the alternator - I have plenty of power to turn the engine over. I'm not getting any spark to turn over the distributor. The coil in the distributor is good.
On the 4.9L Cadillacs & 1990 4.5L's, you need to follow the negative battery cable where it mounts to the side on the engine block (next to the starter). You need to take off the negative cable & clean not only the terminal lug, but the stud that bolts into the engine block. Remove any star washers you find on the lug, they are part of the problem. The cause of the misfire is that a loose or dirty connection at the ground wire will cause a voltage drop on the distributor circuits. As little as 1/2 volt drop at the distributor, will cause the computer to lose the distributor signal & cause the engine to misfire... any electrical load (power windows, blinkers, etc) will increase the voltage drop at the distributor circuits & cause the computer to lose it's sync with the distributor. An easy test to start the engine cold, then rise & lower ALL your windows at the same time. If the running of the engine is affected, clean he main ground on the engine block. We call it a "Cadillac ground service"
On a Ford Explorer , the power distribution box ( which is " live " ) is located in the engine compartment
If an engine was not assembled properly it could cause a low power complaint. If an engine was not assembled properly it could cause a low power complaint.
The power distribution box ( which is " live " ) is located in the engine compartment on the drivers side
Check coil or distributor cap or rotor SORRY NO DISTRIBUTOR,ROTOR OR COIL ON THIS ENGINE HAS A POWER PACK ONLY WHICH IN FUNCTIONING.?
For a stock Automobile, the cost of very high tempurature can be as high as 25% of the rated horse power. For High Stress racing engine High Tempuratures that are not allowed for in tuning can cause engine failure. Losses on a very hot day as much as 30% loss in power.
