I have braised (a special kind of weld) an oil pan in place before and it worked well. Oil is not explosive like gas. As long as your cautious you should be fine. Drain the oil first. You can also try JB Weld ( from the auto parts store) just clean the surface the best you can after you drain the oil. If it sticks it will work. Be sure to let it dry over night.
