No. It is against labor law and the youngest that are hired is 15-16 years old . At 10 you can feed dogs, walk them, mow lawns, have a paper route, help elderly neighbors do things they can no long do for themselves, and do chores at home for an allowance.

No, not for pay. In the United States, a ten year old can work as a volunteer, with his or her parents' permission and a responsible adult supervising. But the US generally does not permit children to be working for money; this is called "child labor," and while back in the period of the 1840s-1940s, young kids could be found working in factories or out in the fields (this often happened to immigrant and minority children), that is no longer considered okay.

Today, the goal is for kids to be in school. The USA follows labor laws called the "Fair Labor Standards Act" (FLSA); these laws state that the youngest a child can be employed is age fourteen-- but not during school-hours, and not in a job considered dangerous. There are some ten year olds who might do baby-sitting, but even that is considered a little bit young.
