Time Lords are supposed to regenerate as a younger version of the same person each time. The reason Dr Who changes is that he is unstable (He dropped out of Time Lord school.) There is no reason he couldn't return to a previous form. Also, it's just a television show, so they can do whatever they want. That's how they made up the whole regeneration thing in the first place.
No once a time lord regenerates he is unable to return to a previous 'life' the only ways David Tennant could return are if the doctor went back to Rose's earth where a human doctor now lives or if he were to encounter him by accident i.e similar circumstances to the children in need episode with Peter Davidson (the fifth doctor).
It is possible, because there is a part time lord in the parallel Earth. You might say 'He is not able to return because it is impossible to travel to parallel universes,' but they have said this twice and it has happened, so it is possible for it to happen again. It is like when they said 'Daleks and Time Lords can't return,' but they did.
Well there is a possibility that when Matt smith regenerates... the process goes wrong or something making it go back, also there is a new TARDIS now so he might not know everything about it...... this could be a special episode or something and bring David Tennant and Christopher Eccleston back into the action.....im sure that would attract a lot of viewers.
It Could happen as their have been episodes in the old series when the time lords sent the doctor his past 3 incarnations to help him. Further on they did it with 5 doctors, sadly the first doctor had died by then.
Yes he can return. We have seen in one episode where the regeneration energy was transferred to the doctors hand that had been cut off. It is not unbelieveable, then, that a part of the tremendous regeneration energy, aidsed by the tardis energy, ripped a hole in time and space and was drawn to the only part of the doctor left...The meta crisis doctor on the parallel earth, with rose. Thus reconstituting the doctor.
The only way he can return for an episode or two would be if they did a multi Doctor special, other then that, no he's not coming back.
