Sociopathy is chiefly characterized by something wrong with the person's conscience. Sociopaths only care about fulfilling their own needs and desires - selfishness and egocentricity to the extreme. Everything and everybody else is mentally twisted around in their minds as objects to be used in fulfilling their own needs and desires. They often believe they are doing something good for society, or at least nothing that bad. The term "sociopath" is frequently used by psychologists and sociologists alike in referring to persons whose unsocialized character is due primarily to parental failures rather than inherent features of temperament.

pathological liars is usually defined as someone who lies incessantly to get their way and does so with little concern for others. Pathological lying is often viewed as coping mechanism developed in early childhood and it is often associated with some other type of mental health disorder. Pathological liars have little regard or respect for the rights and feelings of others. A pathological liar often comes across as being manipulative, cunning and self-centered. A compulsive liar is defined as someone who lies out of habit. Lying is their normal and reflexive way of responding to questions. Compulsive liars bend the truth about everything, large and small. For a compulsive liar, telling the truth is very awkward and uncomfortable while lying feels right.

In the life of the sociopaths reconizing a pathological liar is more common that the other way around. Anybody that has basic studies and a little more experience in life, can recogize both disorders. A person doesnt has to be to smart to recognize this disorders.

I'm a path, and just like every Dick Tom and Harry, I assume everone has some conscience. I want to get what I want in the long-run, usually sex or easy money, so I act like I have one too; it's however not an easy act to duplicate, and I tend to slip up. But people sort of "don't notice" my slip-ups.

With another path, I generally assume people have a conscience and they likely act that way, but when they slip up I don't over-look it, and vice-versa. So until someone does something most people wouldn't do, I can't tell; after they do it, I can tell much less likely to over-look it, and can soon tell.

If you take into consideration the fact that Psychopaths have an ingrained ability to reckognise peoples vulnerabilities I would say it is highly likely that they can.
