My question to you is this : Are you newly diagnosed? Is this about your or a child? Reason : When I was first diagnosed, there was a sort of high associated with having an explanation to what was going on with me. For the first time, I could put my finger on a label that incoroporated all of my "issues." That, plus the medication gave me quite a kick in the pants, and I was really a lot more effective. I think it was because I was becoming more aware of my weaknesses, and I was more conscious of behavioral modifications that could help reduce the effects of my weaknesses. However, after the honeymoon wore off, I found myself sitting around again, etc. I don't think it was the meds, because when I stopped taking them (because hey, they're not working), I ended up back at square one. I learned a lot by that experience. First thing is, that the honeymoon period is real -- they say this happens to people a lot. Second thing is that when you get used to the medication, you almost forget what it is doing for you. I could only find out the difference by stopping for a while and becoming my old self again.

I have heard that some people really do become tolerant of their meds, so maybe a drug holiday will answer the question. But you should work with your doctor on it.

Does Strattera slow you down while adjusting or does it mean that it just is not for the patient taking it?

Definately. When I was first put on Strattera, I noticed a huge difference in my energy level. I was fatigued and felt like I had no energy to do tough tasks. Don't worry though, after about a month, I quit experiencing this fatigue and was back to normal. I have been taking Strattera for 6 months now and for some time now have had no side effects from Strattera.

When should you take Strattera?

I thought Strattera would be a helathy alternative to the often--dreaded stimilants (Adderall especially... no good for me), but Strattera made me feel less like "me", and more like some sort of anxioius, paranoid, mess... it was not fun. I stopped taking Strattera (80mg/day) several days ago after taking it for several months (8+), I know finally am feeling "normal" again. although I'm already on Lexxapro and Vyvanse. Personally, Vyvancse is magic for me and Strattera is poison. other people swear by it. a friend of mine says Strattera saved his life. Just ask your doctor and google / search more for stories that you can relate to,. Also be aware of testing morning versus evening, and try different doses. Basically, if you feel it helps yoru overall mood, focus, and drive, then it helps. It should not cause anxiety or uneasieness...Some people say it's b ADHD and bipolar share many of the same symptoms. If a person is misdiagnosed with ADHD and they actually have bipolar, ADHD medications like Strattera can make the bi-polar WORSE. If you find you are having rapid cycling (anxiety, manic episodes, or extreme highs of moods) on Strattera, you might want to see a psychiatrist to be re-evaluated for the possibility of a bipolar disorder. As far as being able to tell if Strattera is working for your ADHD, since it is not a stimulant, you will rarely get the kinds of energy you might see on a drug like Ritalin or Adderall. It's more of a silent drug. Your body will need to adjust to the initial side-effects, such as fatigue, which can take a couple of weeks. Also, it takes 3-4 weeks from your first dose to truly see the benefits of Strattera. If after a month or so on Strattera you don't find that your impulsivity, focus, or mood have leveled off to something more normal, you might then want to consider trying one of the stimulant drugs -- but you have to give Strattera a chance. Some people stop taking it because they had already been taking stimulants and since Strattera doesn't give you that same burst of energy or "high" you may not feel like it's working. Some people stop taking it because of the initial side effects, which can re-occur each time you increase your dosage or go off the medication for a day or more and come back on it. Some people stop taking it because they expect immediate results when it can take a month to see the results. Just be patient and you'll know if it's working. It's just one of those "things" that you know is different... and better... about you. As I said, it's more a silent drug.

Can Strattera cause frequent hot flashes?

I'm on Strattera. I'm experiencing hot flashes. However, I'm also 51 and it's probably attributable to menopause. Nevertheless, I thought I'd Google strattera/hot flashes to see if there was a pattern. I've been on 25 mg of Strattera for about a month now and I have noticed a huge increase in the number of hot flashes I have (I'm 33). I also have noticed that I feel sweaty most of the time on the back of my neck and forehead. When I'm at the gym or doing some kind of physical activity, I seem to produce more sweat than I have in the past. I have been taking 25MG of strattera for 6 days now and I have had hot flashes all of those days and my hands and feet are very cold. Usually after I after my lunch hour I am freezing but warm up after I start working again. Yes, I've definitely experienced them since on the Strattera. Luckily they've gone away after about a year of use. However, they have been replaced by cold legs/feet.

Is extreme sleepiness a side effect of Strattera and does it go away after a few days?

I Was sleeping everyday on my lunch hour while taking Strattera, It made me feel dopey but it did help a little with concentration issues strangely enough. Just switched to metatdate...hope it works better. N One of the side effects of Strattera is fatigue, but this is not considered a permanent side effect and should resolve itself in two or three weeks as your body becomes accustomed to the drug. When you increase your dose or go off Strattera for a day or more, the fatigue may kick back in as your body re-adjusts, but for most users, this side-effect eventually goes away. Every person is different, though, and if you are taking other drugs, there could be interactions with them that will cause unexpected side effects.

Is it ok to start taking Lexapro again after not taking it for a while?

it depends. If your talking about a week then yes, if your talking about a few months, you should talk to your doctor. If you stop to soon the second time you start taking it, you risk your symptoms coming back worse
